Ordered Steps
Opening thoughts:
I’ve been feeling super discouraged lately. I don’t know about you, but I get these episodes when I grieve my failure. I grieve my emotions, my vulnerability… I think about how I get disappointed so easily in plans and in people. I am a very oriented person and I love order. Let's be honest here!
I think about all the people who've had their big break through... They are living out their dream. Things look so easy on the outside, but it isn’t that simple. Have you longed for your dream to happen? What if that isn't even the dream that’s supposed to happen?. “Potential is not purpose” This overthinking isn’t healthy, but somehow the lord always speaks to me through these thoughts. One day I will see him, but now I can embrace salvation. I shouldn’t be so disappointed in plans changing because I always take detours. Don’t hold resentment when they disappoint you because God never does that when I am disobedient to him. We love each other because he first loved us.
Ordered Steps
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24 KJV
Rest in the promise that your steps have been ordered by the Lord. He goes before you. I know most of you have had unexpected tragedy happen to you at a young age or things have happened to you that you quite do not understand. Maybe you grew up without your parents, maybe school wasn’t an escape for you, but it was hell at home and school. You have always questioned why you went through that? You didn’t do anything to deserve that. You might be in a cycle of depression right now and it looks like there is no way out, but let me tell you… YOU HAVE AUTHORITY. TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY FULL OF MERCY. You should rest in the promise. Even in the midst of your frustration and in the midst of your prayers not being answered. God is so crafty and he knows exactly what he’s doing. Yeah, you didn’t ask for that, but don’t doubt God will use it for his glory. He has a bigger plan. He’s working on something in you. That “thing” could be part of your testimony or lead you into your destined assignment. It’s time to leave the past where it is and start walking knowing God is directing your steps. Stop blaming the Devil on things that you have the ability to change. Believe in the promises of God. His character doesn’t change. When fear comes, discouragement, temptation... You have power to cast them down (2 Corinthians 10:5)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Luke 10:19 KJV
Ordered steps are also about developing you to be more like christ. It is about multiple decisions that bring you closer to calling and purpose. You are able to consult with the Spirit directly when you need guidance or direction in a certain situation. Needless to say, when we intentionally sin and make decisions that aren't right we can bring destruction upon ourselves. It’s ok though. He is still there to rescue us, forgive, and restore. Even when you fall back, he is still waiting and calling you back to him in the tiniest of details.
We are always going to go through trials in this life. What do you do when more unexpected things show up in your adult life? What do you do when God seems kind of silent and you’re feeling discouraged? I encourage you to trust that it is part of God’s perfect plan. I know it's easier said than done. Lean on him and not your own understanding. Wait on him to reveal to you what he’s been doing in your life. The waiting season is one of the hardest, but I've noticed it is one of the most beneficial of times. It’s easy to praise and trust God in the good times, but in the hard times is really where God does the most work inside of us. It’s time to step back into the way of the Lord. Slowly but surely I see that for you!
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
